President's Message

Dear Fellow Alumni:

Welcome to the official site of the newly-formed Dieruff High School Alumni Association!  Representing all graduating classes, the organization was formed in December of 2011, and has been meeting monthly at Dieruff in the Mike Meilinger Media Center.  The interest and enthusiasm by our local alumni has been profound.  Five of your fellow alumni have stepped forward to assume leadership roles.  All of them continue to serve unselfishly. The association has been formed to provide help and support in three areas.

First, we are reaching out to all of the Dieruff High School graduating classes. We are giving all Dieruff alumni the opportunity to connect with old friends. At our Mardi Gras dance in February, over two hundred alumni from thirty five different classes gathered for an evening of fun. We have more events planned for the coming months that will draw even more of us together. Our web site is also an awesome tool. Please take the time to sign up so you may become more connected to your Alma Mater and to enable us to keep you informed.  We also hope to become a resource for classes that want or need help with planning their reunions. There are a number of classes among us that have developed their expertise with reunions, and they are willing to share their experience and knowledge.

Second, we have a special relationship with the Allentown School District Foundation. This nonprofit organization was formed three years ago, with its primary mission of enhancing the learning experience of all students in the Allentown School District. In the long term, we will be working side by side with the Foundation.  In these challenging times, both the Foundation and our Alumni Association need to partner, and become strong resources for the Allentown School District.

Third, and most importantly, the mission of our Alumni Association is to support Dieruff High School.  We must do everything possible to share our time, talents, and resources!  Now, more than ever, the Dieruff faculty and staff, and the students, need our help.  In the last few months, we attended and hosted a tailgate breakfast for the team at the Dieruff-Allen baseball game at Coca-Cola Park. We also attended the musical, "Hairspray", as a group and hosted a post-performance reception for the cast and their family members.  Ray Reppert (Class 0f ’76) has started a weekly Auto CAD training program that we hope will evolve in to the Dieruff High School Design Build Company.  It’s our goal that by Fall of 2012, this mentoring program will be in place to help teach Dieruff students to design and build projects.  We hope to develop other mentoring programs and plan many alumni functions at Dieruff in the coming school year. We have seen firsthand how our efforts have produced positive results, and have been appreciated.

I feel very fortunate to have been part of the formation of this incredible Dieruff High School Alumni Association. Looking forward, I see nothing but exciting growth and success stories. There is no job too big or too challenging for a group of faithful Dieruff Huskies!  Let’s continue to Unleash our Husky Pride! Let’s make history together!

Sincerely,

Fred Schuler
